CHARLES II, 'X' FRAME CHAIR OF STATE

This seat with its distinctive 'x' frame, is know as a chair of state. The frame is made of beech and upholstered with red and crimson velvet, tacked on with iron nails with ornamental gilt heads.


A similar piece known as 'The Juxon chair' is currently on display at the V&A, London, UK. The Juxon chair was used by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the coronation of King Charles II.
